Big names in the Canadian music scene are set to join Cari Burdett and friends on December 18th -21st, 2015,  for Lila Music Centre’s 5th Annual Winter Solstice Music Concert.

Cari Burdett & Lila Music Centre presents the 5th Annual Winter Solstice Concert. This Cowichan Valley tradition brings together unique combinations of musicians and songs every year, presenting a unique performance filled with songs of joy and peace. New this year is a west coast tour, watch for concerts in Duncan Dec 18th, Salt Spring Dec 19th, Nanaimo Dec 20th, and Victoria Dec 21st

Nationally acclaimed Canadian artists Richard Moody (violin), Miles Black( piano, sax, guitar), and Anne Schaefer (piano, guitar, vocals) pair up with vocalists Sara Marreiros and director, Cari Burdett, and will be accompanied by dance artist Marisa Jackson.

Bringing forward the spirit of cabaret and combining it with music from around the world, a thread of theatre and dance, and a dash of improvisation; this show is sure to please! To celebrate the returning light, vocalists Cari Burdett and Sara Marreiros invite the audience to participate in singing along with a few tunes and to offer their holiday wishes to create a one of a kind improvised piece of music to honour this very special time of year.

 Cari Burdett:  Canadian chanteuse Cari Burdett brings a timeless blend of dramatic gypsy cabaret to the stage, taking listeners traveling the world through song and stories of the heart. Her first studio album, “Magnolia”, was nominated as Best World Music Album in the 2015 West Canadian Music Awards.

Marisa Jackson: Marisa toured, choreographed and taught in Europe for more than 10 yrs before moving to an intentional community in Ontario in 2005. Today, her passion in movement lies in authentic movement and contact improvisation, as an illustration of personal journeying, and as a deep metaphor for the journey of community.

Sara Marreiros: Sara embodies a musical nomad. Growing up between Portugal and Victoria, she was fortunate enough to be influenced by many musical traditions. Drawing upon the styles of Portuguese fado, jazz, folk and vocal improvisation, audiences delight in Sara’s special blend of heartfelt song.

Richard Moody

Richard Moody: is a member of the Juno nominated band The Bills, the Victoria gypsy jazz group Brishen, World music duo, and Moody Amiri. A veteran of the Canadian music scene, and a co-founder of the critically acclaimed rock group Acoustically Inclined, he has also performed and recorded with the likes of Jane Siberry, The Wailin Jennys, and Matthew Lien.


Miles Black: Based in Vancouver, BC, Miles Black is a highly respected career musician bringing an enormous wealth of musical experience and expertise to most every facet of the music industry.  Firstly known as one of Canada’s most accomplished jazz pianists, Miles is also highly acclaimed and sought after as an arranger, producer, composer, session musician, guitarist, vocalist, bassist, saxophonist, songwriter, and musical theatre director.  Adding to that, he has worked as a music therapist and collegiate music instructor. Especially in Vancouver, Miles Black is well know as the “first call’ when musicians are looking for top professional enhancements to their projects.

Anne doorway 2Anne Schaefer: Born into a family of musicians in small town Saskatchewan, Anne Schaefer began her studies in classical music and performance and from there, has explored virtually every genre as her passion and curiosity continues to expand. Her love of
music could not be contained to studying, writing and performing,

and she has had the blessing of 30 years as a music instructor and facilitator. Schaefer has travelled with her musical perspective through four continents and a myriad of contexts from performances in cafe’s, concert halls and everything in between, to private instruction, Choral ensembles and Workshops in many diverse formats. Schaefer believes that the very nature of sound is an energetic force that connects, inspires, celebrates and heals us and that our individual and collective lives are profoundly impacted as we embrace our inherent nature of musicality

Kelby MacNayr: Drummer / composer / band-leader Kelby MacNayr performs groundbreaking original music, soulful swinging jazz, reaching contemporary music and traditional music from around the world.  A dynamic and creative musician MacNayr performs in Canada and abroad with leading musicians from New York, Seattle, Portland, Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto & Europe.
