Raising funds in support of the Where Do We Stand’s advocacy group for the long term health and sustainability of the Six Mountains and Community Forests.

Join Lila Music Centre’s Community Choir and share the joy of music in our annual fundraising concert, “Sing for Trees”, a fundraising concert on June 8th at Duncan United Church on Ingram Street. The concert will feature professional musicians, a children’s choir and our Community adult choir with a band to share the Joy, beauty and importance of the Forests, Mountains and the Trees surrounding our beautiful valley.

The Lila Community Choir has been singing together for 13 years in the Cowichan Valley and has offered over 35 performances. Choir director, Cari Burdett creates a fun and friendly atmosphere and welcomes and encourages all voices and levels to join in the joy of singing. She believes everyone can sing and is passionate about building community through music. Over the years, the choir has raised awareness and funds in the Cowichan Valley for many of the grassroot, non profit and community events that keep our community healthy, thriving and alive.

Tanya Gillespie is a multi-talented phenomenon. With what seems to be an endless abundance of energy, personality and shear genius all rolled up into a 5 foot something package. With her Jamaican roots, she certainly takes full advantage of that country’s rhythmic and eclectic culture. Tanya invites you into her world of clever innuendos, word phrasing, rhythms, impish humour as well as heart breaking truths. Her EP “Roots” which I predict will go viral, is just the latest, of what I’m hoping is an endless supply of musical treasures this young lady has to offer.

Quin Etheridge-Pedden,a young emerging musician in British Columbia, portrays his music through 11 strings including a 5-string fiddle, guitar and his voice. Quin’s performances cause the audience to dance along to the high energy fiddle tunes, sing to the catchy songs, and stay intrigued throughout because of the cascading melodies pouring out of his loop pedal.

Sami Al-Khaliliis a beatboxing, poetry-spreading, vocal performance student at the Conservatory of Music in Victoria, BC. Swallowtail Nature School  Children’s Choir

We are a place-based, outdoor program through the Grove sd79. It is Distributed Learning, which is a program for home learners where students have some contact time with a BC certified teacher; in Swallowtail’s case that time is spent with hands-on, nature awareness programming on a beautiful property in Cowichan Station near the Koksilah River. It is a gr K-9 program and the group singing with the choir is the gr K-2 group.

Open for new enrollment for September. and Swallowtail .

Joanna Circle – welcomes pausing and listening.  Imagine standing within a circle of 8 Grandmother Cottonwood and hearing, “Where are the bones Joanne?”  Respectfully River Otters’ bones were returned, and this gift of the Cottonwood Song fell from the treetops into the drum ~ a song speaking to our relationship and ability to be present and listen.  Living in this valley for 4 decades, Joanne celebrates all our relations through her photography, textile sculpture, drawing, sweatlodge and music.
