About Threshold Singers
The Cowichan Valley Threshold Singers offer comfort and compassion, through song, for those who are experiencing the passage of dying. We are inclusive, community-based singers who support people through sacred song during sickness, at bedside and at memorial services. We Value the virtues of presence, compassion, diversity and love. We make kindness audible.
We are able to sing in the home, at a care facility or in hospital. Our music is chosen for its simple melodic tunes and words of peace and comfort. We are non- denominational. Our services are free of charge. The Threshold Singers have received referrals from family members, caregivers, hospital staff, and care facilities and by the Cowichan Valley Hospice Society.
“ Three years ago I heard this group singing so joyfully, so alive. I was 74, my husband was dying, and I was deeply moved by their singing. They walked with me and sang for me and my husband as he was passing. They helped and healed me through their presence at his Memorial Service. I later joined the choir. Singing and being with them has become a joyful spiritual force in my life” - Elli Boray
Available Services
For individuals: A 20 minute session of songs sung acapella at the bedside by two or three singers. When present at a bedside, we sing approximately eight songs, in a simple melodic style. We do not offer advice or try to change the situation. We offer our songs as solace and beauty.
Memorial Services: Sung by the choir, with songs selected by the family.
In Community: Singing offered at care homes, hospital, and appropriate events; different groups sizes depending on event.
