Sense Play –  Joyful games with silks, sticks, balls and movement. We develop our balance, intuition, confidence, trust, listening and more all through games.

Corbin Keep is a musical renegade, for whom genre and musical convention are much less important than visceral energy and the artistic expression of each unique individual.
He is an accomplished cellist, guitarist, singer-songwriter and all around big hearted, high energy, music guy. Says Corbin, “Connection between people is something that I value above pretty much everything else, and music – especially that which we’ve created ourselves – is a perfect vehicle for that.”
Choices of classes will include:
Creative Cello Class – If you love the cello and have a desire to make music with it, this is the workshop for you. The class is open to cellists of all levels, experienced or just starting out. There will be extra instruments on hand for those who do not have their own yet.
The bow is a paintbrush and the cello a pallet of many, many colours, hues and textures. We will avail ourselves of many of them!
Be in a Band and Rock out! In this course you will compose your own rock songs with a band. Bring your instruments and voices.
Did you know that you already know how to play fast guitar? Even if you only just started? Doing this is a matter of tapping into the right muscles and utilizing proper picking technique. So many of the “amazing things” you hear guitarists pull off are actually quite easy to do!
We’ll quickly get a few different skills and concepts under our belts, including picking, strumming, muting and “horizontal” scales, which are incredibly easy to learn and understand. Armed with that creative arsenal, we’ll co-write, record and perform a rock song together.
Percussion Party In the class we will create our own percussion instruments and rock out in rhythms.

Orith Horowitz –  is Jump into Music’s owner, curriculum creator and music instructor in the Cowichan Valley. For the last 10 years, Orith has worked closely with children and their families in Vancouver as a teacher and curriculum developer of early childhood education programs. She also values using her extensive performing experience as a Jazz musician on upright bass and vocals, her birthday facilitating skills and her degree in music from Capilano University to make a difference in families’ lives.

Lila Summer Family Music Camp 2017

Creativity, expression, language, rhythm, and all the many other aspects of music help provide tools to grow in a healthy way. From July 17-21 and July 24- 28, children and adults are welcome to attend the Lila Summer Family Music School, at Lila Music Centre in Duncan.

Half and full day options are available, and the days will be spent learning to play instruments, such as guitar and cello, singing, and learning the joys of creating music with talented instructors Cari Burdett, Orith Horowitz, and Corbin Keep. The camp is meant to foster and reinforce a love for music as a universal language, and days are designed around fun and lively group activities meant to enhance team-building and creative expression.

Participants will have the option to participate in any activity available, no matter their skill level, and learning a new instrument is just as encouraged as continuing with a favourite instrument. “Learning a musical instrument can be challenging at first because sometimes we think we need to be able to do something before we’ve given ourselves an opportunity to try. This provides a safe environment where mistakes are okay. It’s a beautiful way of learning,” says Lila Owner and instructor Cari Burdett.

Learning music builds creativity, expression, language, rhythm, and all the other aspects of music help provide tools needed to grow both physically and emotionally. “Music is also really important developmental tool in language, and it enhances brain pathways which are very important for balance, coordination, and flexibility in terms of confidence and ability to try different things,” says Burdett.

Camp instructor, cellist, singer/songwriter, and guitarist Corbin Keep says, “Often, music lessons – and the immersive experience of a music camp – is about much more than music. Kids (& adults) gain confidence and may discover amazing aspects of themselves that they didn’t know existed. In particular, the co-creation of original music seems to have a powerful, positive effect.”

Now in it’s third year, the Lila Summer Family Music Camp offers a wide variety of hands-on music training for all ages, as well as the opportunity to take part in an all-camp orchestra and choir, led by Burdett,
